Application of 28% Basic Aluminum Chloride in Treatment of Oily Wastewater

‌Composite basic aluminum chloride for treating oily wastewater: Composite, it has fast hydrolysis speed, dense alum flocs (can meet the shear force requirements when alum flocs and bubbles adhere in flotation operation), small particle size, but high density, good coagulation function, suitable for a wide range of pH and temperature. Through experiments, we found that composite basic aluminum chloride is much more effective than traditional basic aluminum chloride in treating oily wastewater.

The factors affecting the oil removal function of improved composite basic aluminum chloride are mainly: alkalinity (B), aluminum-iron ratio (AlBFe), dosage and alkalizer selected during polymerization. The experimental results show that:

(1) The main factor affecting the oil removal function of improved composite basic aluminum chloride is alkalinity, followed by aluminum-iron ratio and dosage, and the type of alkalizer has the least effect.

(2) It can be preliminarily confirmed that the optimal conditions for the improved composite basic aluminum chloride to treat oil production wastewater in the main basin of Yanhe River are: alkalinity B = 210, ratio AlBFe = 5B5, and the optimal treatment dosage is 100 mg/L.

(3) The type of alkalizer is not the primary factor affecting the oil removal function of the improved basic aluminum chloride, but it is worth noting that the basic aluminum chloride prepared with CaO as the base has better oil removal performance than the composite basic aluminum chloride obtained with other alkalizers.

On-site dynamic experiment

It is planned to further verify and compare the oil removal function of the improved composite basic aluminum chloride through on-site dynamic experiment, so as to obtain the experimental support necessary for its promotion and application. In the experimental process, the requirements of the three processes of coagulation, flocculation and flotation during the mixing reaction on the dosing order, mixing intensity and reaction time are first considered, so that the pH regulator, inorganic coagulant and organic demulsifier are added at three different positions of the reactor respectively;

The performance of composite basic aluminum chloride in treating oily wastewater is better than that of basic aluminum chloride, and under the same optimal treatment conditions, the dosage of the former is about 20% less than that of the latter.

Conclusion

(1) It is confirmed that the main factors affecting the improved composite basic aluminum chloride are alkalinity, aluminum-iron ratio and dosage. This result provides preliminary experimental materials and requirements for selecting suitable slag, coal gangue and industrial waste to produce improved composite basic aluminum chloride.

(2) When the improved composite basic aluminum chloride is used in the dissolved air flotation process to treat oily wastewater, its optimal alkalinity is 210 and the aluminum-iron ratio is 5B5.

(3) The results of the on-site dynamic experiment show that the oil removal function of composite basic aluminum chloride is better than that of basic aluminum chloride. Under the same optimal treatment conditions, the former saves about 20% of the dosage compared with the latter, so the amount of scum generated is relatively small and the operating cost is relatively low.
