Polyacrylamide(PAM), as an important organic polymer compound, occupies a significant position in the product line of Yuxin Ring Chemical. In order to help customers better use this product, we have compiled the following dissolution and usage guidelines:
1、 Product Overview
Polyacrylamide is divided into anionic, cationic, and nonionic types, appearing as white powder or granules. It is soluble in water but has a slow dissolution rate and is insoluble in most organic solvents. Under specific conditions, such as heating, it is soluble in a few polar organic solvents.
2、 Dissolving conditions
Ø Water quality selection: It is recommended to use distilled water for dissolution to achieve the best results. Tap water can also be used, but it may affect the dissolution rate and effectiveness.
Ø Dissolution temperature: The suitable dissolution temperature is 50-60 ℃. Excessive temperature may cause molecular chain breakage and reduce the effectiveness of use.
Ø Mixing conditions: Low speed blade mixing is used, such as anchor type, frame type, multi-layer slurry type, etc., and the mixing speed is controlled at around 60 revolutions per minute. Avoid using high-speed centrifugal pumps and recommend using piston pumps or diaphragm pumps.
3、 Dissolving steps
l Uniform dispersion feeding: After starting the mixer, use a mechanical vibrating screen (with a mesh size of 10) to ensure uniform dispersion of the feeding and avoid the production of insoluble particles.
l Continuous stirring: After adding PAM, continue stirring for more than 30 minutes to ensure that it is fully dissolved.
4、 Precautions for use
² Chemical response: PAM does not undergo a chemical reaction with the surface of the metal workpiece, but the low molecular weight anionic pam adheres more firmly to the surface of the steel plate. In water treatment processes containing metal fine mesh filters and low-pressure centrifugal equipment, it is advisable to avoid using anionic pam as much as possible.
² Concentration control: It is ideal to control the concentration of PAM at 1-3 ‰. Too low a concentration cannot effectively exert its effect, while too high a concentration may cause the molecular chains to not fully stretch or form a gel, reducing the effectiveness of use.
² Usage time: Dissolved PAM should be used as soon as possible. Anionic type should generally not exceed 36 hours, while cationic type is prone to hydrolysis after dissolution and should be used up within 24 hours.
